📚🚀 The Classroom of the Future Workshop
This comprehensive five-day workshop, scheduled over 2.5 weeks from February 23 to March 9, 2023, is hosted within the dynamic context of the Architectural Design V-VI Studio at Istanbul Technical University.
Led by Prof. Dr. Leman Figen Gül and Begum Moralioglu, with support from Research Assistant Burak Delikanlı, this workshop offers participants a unique opportunity to conceptualize and design "The Classroom of the Future." The central focus lies in exploring how Extended Reality (XR) technologies—comprising Virtual, Augmented, and Mixed Reality—can redefine educational spaces and experiences. Participants will critically analyze the limitations of current educational environments and examine the transformative potential of XR technologies to address these challenges. The program encourages speculative design thinking, guiding participants to imagine how XR integration can revolutionize the spatial and experiential dimensions of future classrooms. In the final day of the workshop, participants will produce an engaging video representation of their envisioned future learning spaces.
The workshop, structured into five sessions, blends theoretical insights with practical applications. Participants will engage in knowledge dissemination, hands-on design activities, collaborative discussions, and immersive video creation. Key topics include design principles tailored to XR, speculative narratives of future classroom scenarios, and the practical visualization of these concepts.
A range of advanced tools and devices will be provided to support creative exploration, including HoloLens2, Meta Quest2, Oculus Rift, Magic Leap, NReal Air, and video editing software. By the conclusion of the workshop, participants will have developed both a nuanced understanding of XR technologies and a narrative video that articulates their vision of future educational environments.
